Level One TriYoga Workshop with Liz Sanderson

Liz

Friday, February 24th 2012
6:00-8:30pm
$20 advance $25 at door

TriYoga is a hatha yoga practice which emphasizes increasing the core strength of the body by bringing more attention to the natural wave of the spine. Incorporating this awareness allows transitions between postures to become smoother and more deliberate, enabling a clearer sense of alignment from within.

Synchronizing asana (postures) with pranayama (rhythmic breathing) and mudra (focus) we experience our practice as a continuous flow, increasing mental, physical and spiritual energy. With receiving this mental clarity we are then able to consciously and ease-fully create a joyously balanced and healthy life.

During this workshop we will:

  • Chant! Nada (sound) yoga is a wonderful way to begin class, adding space within the mind for the expansiveness of the sacred practice.
  • Breathe! Pranayama (rhythmic breathing) rids the body of toxins and is used as an aide to either heat or cool the internal body system.
  • Move! Asana (postures) provide countless benefits to the body, and with TriYoga that triples! Learning smooth transitions and alignment cues that can be easily taken into any yoga class.
  • Relax....Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) takes you into the eternal space of Soul, where we are one with All beings.

Function Cultivates Form: Refining the Asana with Lisa Meer-Lewis

adjustment

Saturday, 2/18/2012

From: 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM

You've heard the phrase "form follows function." Actually, structure begets function and then function leads to the form. In other words, structural balance allows the body and its musculature to function in the way it was meant to with strength AND flexibility. When there is an imbalance in the structure or a weak link in the chain (the spine or the skeletal system), the container that is the body cannot hold the prana or energy that we are working to generate in our practice. We are missing out on opportunities to develop our inherent power - inside and out - and allowing ourselves to become vulnerable to strain and injury.

Trying to force your body or a student's body into an asana based on form alone leaves behind the higher intention of function. In yoga, function is more valuable than form for gaining the benefits given to us through the asana. Whether you are an experienced student with a deep interest in learning more about the body or a yoga teacher, you will find value in this small group workshop. We will begin to learn about refining the asana to find integrity AND beauty and bring about healthy function and ultimately, a healthy physical vehicle. We will look at which prop & why, strategic prop adjustments depending on body structure and hands-on adjustments with some partnering work.

This month, we will address several standing and balancing poses:

  • Using healthy joint alignment to find stability while on our feet and on our hands
  • Properly recruiting the spine and pelvis to find steadiness
  • Developing strength and shoulder integrity in balancing poses like plank and chaturanga

RESTORATIVE YOGA for INSOMNIA - Falling Asleep with Ease - Conscious Deep Rest with Cecelia Rice

Sleep
Saturday, 2/25/2012

From: 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM

$35.00

In this very special and NEW restorative yoga workshop, we will experience a series of six Hatha Yoga Poses and a series of six Supported Restorative Postures using bolsters, blankets, blocks and eye pillows along with Breathing Techniques which will calm the mind, relax the muscles and sooth the senses before retiring for the night and falling asleep with ease.

For those times when the sleep pattern is broken, we well explore the practice of yoga Nidra to help divert the mind from trying to "will" yourself back to sleep. We will take time to reflect on our daily routine {work. food, exercise} and their effects on our mind/body before retiring.

We will also share ideas on how to create the time and space for a home practice for falling asleep with ease or to rest deeply when your natural sleep pattern has been broken.

Please bring a pen and notepad. A favorite blanket and pillow.

Announcing: Big Asana - a workshop for round-bodied yogis

If you're a yogi with a bigger body, being balled up in child's pose or trying to get into shoulderstand without suffocating yourself (hello, boobs!) can frustrate the heck out of you. A blissful hour on the mat for the rest of the class can turn into you throwing in the yoga-towel if you don't know how to modify poses for YOUR body.
This workshop was designed especially to help you do that. In this 2-hour workshop, you'll learn:
  • How to avoid suffocation-by-boobage in all kinds of poses
  • Twisting and folding when you have a belly
  • Sun salutations for your body
  • Inversions for larger bodies - we'll use the yoga wall and props to get you safely upside down
Come to this small-group workshop where we'll help each other find safe alignment and freedom in poses, learn to modify yoga to fit our bodies, and have some laughs along the way.

About the instructor

Stacey Lawlor’s love of yoga stems from her deep commitment to connect with herself and those around her. Her practice began about 10 years ago when her twin sons were toddlers. She fell in love with how completely different yoga was from any other form of fitness or movement she had ever participated in and how it helped her to learn to be present in every moment of her life both on and off of the mat. It is in that present moment that she is able to see the beauty and grace of every person she encounters.
