About Us

The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. “Nama” means bow, “as” means I, and “te” means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means “bow me you” or “I bow to you.

At The Space Above, we have created a home for the practice of living happily. The variety of practices that we offer are meant to encourage personal growth in any way whether it be through yoga or just gathering with community. We truly believe that there cannot be only one way to experience health and healing. Our work is diverse and non-dogmatic. We rejoice in each individual’s unique contribution to building a healthful and supportive community. All of us at The Space Above welcome all people, with or without experience in yoga, to share and appreciate the transformational power of community.

Being that the first yogic principle is ‘ahimsa’ or ‘non-violence in thought, word or deed to anyone or anything including oneself,’ The Space Above embraces non-violence to mother earth and to each other.

“Asana is done to connect to the energy all around us…. The purpose of asana is not to do more and more asana. It’s to do more and more life!”      - Aadil Palkhivala
